The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles women's soccer team earned the 2006 SAC regular season and tournament championships with an 18-2 record. The team led the conference in goals scored and points earned per match. Senior forward Rebecca Angus earned the SAC's Player of the Year award for the second time in her career in guiding the Lady Eagles to the NCAA Southeast Regional tournament final. She also earned Daktronics All-Region honors. Senior defender Stacey Thomas earned Academic All-American honors for the second time in her career with a 4.0 grade point average in Mathematics. Carson-Newman midfielder Rebecca Nulph was named the Most Valuable Player of the SAC tournament. Nulph was joined on the All-Tournament team by teammates Katie Perea, Jessie Stevens and Erica Stegner. Carson-Newman head coach Phil McNamara, who guided the Lady Eagles to their third conference title in four years, was selected South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year. He won the award for the second time in his career. Midfielder Brittany Moore and defender Julie Nelson were named to the All-SAC first team. Forward Christie Murray, midfielders Erica Stegner, Zarmena Kasparites and defender Thomas were named to the second team. Nelson was recently named captain of the Northern Ireland national womens soccer team that qualified for the UEFA European Championship to be played in 2009. |
