Wingate, N.C.----The Carson-Newman College Eagles defeated the Wingate University Bulldogs 5-3 in the first round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference men's tennis tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Wingate Tennis Complex. The Eagles improve to 7-5 overall, Wingate falls to 8-13. For the Bulldogs, freshman Mitchell Lvovsky (Dania, Fla.) defeated Carson-Newman's Giuseppe Schwarz (Brazil) 6-2, 6-2 in number one singles. Wingate sophomore Brendan Molan (Charlotte, N.C.) defeated Carson-Newman's Jack Harvie (Snellville, Ga.) 6-1, 6-2 in number four singles action. In doubles action, freshmen Louis Villarroel (Maraval, Trinidad) and Braeden Patchell (Oakville, Ontario) teamed up to defeat Preston Sneed (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Harvie of Carson-Newman 8-3 in number one doubles. Carson-Newman advances to face top-seeded Tusculum in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Friday. The semifinal match begins at 3 p.m. Singles
