2006 SEASON RECAP

The Carson-Newman Eagles earned top-20 rankings in the D2football.com and American Football Coaches Association polls for most of the 2006 season.

Under head coach Ken Sparks, the Eagles compiled an 8-3 record which included a thrilling, come-from-behind Homecoming win versus Mars Hill on October 7, a 52-14 rout of Wingate, and a 23-3 victory over in-state rival Tusculum College on November 11 to conclude the 2006 season. Offensive lineman James Pereminis earned first team All-SAC honors.

Under the patented veer offense, Jeremy Arrington led a balanced running attack with 425 yards while quarterback Alex Good rushed for 285 yards as well. Quarterback Alex Rouse completed 46% of his passes for 1,036 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The talented Eagle wide receiver corps led by Reggie Hubbard caught 69 passes for 1,297 yards and 14 touchdowns. Hubbard caught 21 passes for 520 yards and five touchdowns.

Defensively, the Eagles' linebacking corps led a solid unit that held opponents to four rushing touchdowns and only 2.7 yards per carry. Eric Rice led the Eagles with 73 tackles, including 17 tackles for loss. Freshman Brian Brown, who earned South Atlantic Conference Defensive Freshman Player of the Year, had 72 tackles including 11 1/2 tackles for loss.

Rice was twice named South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and led the team in tackles. Rice also earned second team All-SAC honors along with safety Brandon Walden, defensive lineman Anthony Toribio, punter David Brentz, and offensive lineman Nate Skellenger. With most of the team returning for the 2007 season, the prospects for Eagle football are very bright.
